Cinemanila, Truly International: Over 100 Films from 40 Countries

Since 1999, the Cinemanila International Film Festival (CIFF) has given film audiences in the Philippines the opportunity to watch films from various parts of the world. This year, the 9th CIFF is proud to announce that it will be featuring over 100 films from 40 countries, including Denmark, India, Spain, South Africa, Sweden, Turkey, and member nations of the ASEAN. Among the international films will be several past winners in the Berlin and Cannes film festivals, such as the Palm DíOr winner at Cannes, 4 Months, 3 Weeks & 2 Days; The Edge of Heaven, nominated for the Palm DíOr and winner of Best Screenplay; South African film U-Carmen eKhayelitsha, Golden Berlin Bear winner in 2005; and Pedro Almovodarís critically acclaimed Volver.

The other titles include La Vie en Rose, the Edith Piaf biopic starring Marion Cotillard (A Very Long Engagement, A Good Year); 2 Days in Paris, directed by and starring Julie Delpy (Before Sunrise, Before Sunset); Paris Je Tíaime, stories of love in Paris as seen by several acclaimed directors including Alfonso Cuaron, Alexander Payne, and Gus Van Sant; Hula Girls, multi-awarded Japanese drama/comedy and the countryís entry to last yearís Oscar Foreign Language category; Requiem; and Deficit, directed by and starring international superstar Gael Garcia Bernal.

The 9th Cinemanila International Film Festival will have its run from 8 to 19 August 2007 at Gateway Mall Cineplex 10 in Araneta Center, Quezon City, and from 17 to 19 August 2007 in Boracay Island. The CIFF is organized jointly by the Independent Cinema Association of the Philippines (ICAP), the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP), the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), and a specially commissioned inter-agency committee, with Major Partners: the Office of the President, the Department of Tourism, CinemaOne, and Gateway Cineplex 10; Gold Sponsors: Manila Bulletin, Philippine Airlines, and Web Philippines Inc.; Festival Sponsor: ClicktheCity.com; Event Sponsors: Asian Spirit and Boysen Paints.
