Cinemanila: Numero Uno sa Digital!
Since 2005, the Cinemanila International Film Festival (CIFF) has showcased and honored the best Filipino digital films through the Digital Lokal competition. The winners of the Digital Lokal Competition have gone on to represent the country and win accolades in international film festivals. Auraeus Solitoís Tuli, 1st Prize winner in the 2005 competition, won the Netpac Award in the 2007 Berlin International Film Festival. Mes de Guzmanís Ang Daan Patungong Kalimugtong, which placed 2nd, was screened at the San Sebasti?n Film Festival in Spain, while Briccio Santosís Ala Verde Ala Pobre, the 3rd Prize winner, was shown in Rome. Last yearís Grand Prize went to Brillante Mendozaís Manoro, which won the CinemAvvenire Award in last yearís Torino International Festival of Young Cinema. These filmmakers first made waves with films first screened by the Cinemanila International Film Festival. Jon Red, Paolo Villaluna, Ellen Ramos, and Raya Martin, now all famous names in filmmaking, have also been participants in the Competition. Indeed, Cinemanila is at the forefront of the digital filmmaking movement in the Philippines. Numero Uno sa Digital!
The 9th Cinemanila International Film Festival will have its run from 8 to 19 August 2007 at Gateway Mall Cineplex 10 in Araneta Center, Quezon City, and from 17 to 19 August 2007 in Boracay Island.
